GET INVOLVED
Do you have what it takes to seize your hour in the spotlight and be in BLINK? Here’s how you can get involved:
WANT TO DANCE?
Interested in dance or performance? Award winning company Wayne McGregor | Random Dance will recruit 100 teenagers and adults from the Margate and Thanet area to form the BLINK DANCE COMPANY.
BLINK is an opportunity to work with a world-renowned choreographer (The Royal Ballet, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), perform alongside professional dancers and help create a brand new performance. Be one of 100 local people in a new dance company set up to perform in this extraordinary event. All we need is your commitment, energy and enthusiasm plus a desire to work hard to get the best possible results. Professional dancers will be working alongside you to inspire and support you.
Whether you have previous experience or it’s something you’ve always wanted to do – now is your chance to come and join us.
OFFSTAGE
STREET TEAM
There are more ways to get involved, you could work with our STREET TEAM to get the word out about the event, to raise profile and interest, and help ensure we get the crowds along on the night. The word is on the street!
EVENT MANAGEMENT
If as many people come to BLINK as we think are going to come (see Street Team above!), we’re going to need all the help we can get to manage the crowds. STEWARDS AND MARSHALLS will work with the rest of the event management team to make sure the event goes off without a hitch on the night. We need you!
BACKSTAGE
PRODUCTION CREW (over 16s only)
This event is a Major and Massive production – if you want insight, training, knowledge and experience of how an event of this scale and ambition actually happens from behind the scenes, you should enrol for our Production Crew (over 16s only).
PYROTECHNICIAN’S ASSISTANT (over 18s only)
That’s right, you could be lucky enough to assist in the biggest pyro event of the year. Forget about those supermarket boxes plus sparklers displays – we’re talking radio controlled, precision timed awesomeness. These guys rule.
Alternatively, you can simply sign up for updates and be in our audience.
If you are interested in getting involved with BLINK, simply email info@mcmc-arts.com stating which area of the project you are interested in NOW.
WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY
BLINK will also be working with people from the local community in the following roles:
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO volunteers will work with us to create some of the key visual elements of BLINK and also to document the process of BLINK’s development.
HAIR & MAKE-UP volunteers with flair, confidence and the capability to achieve perfection at speed will be working with us to make sure that everyone looks their best on the night.
SOUND & MUSIC are going to feature in a big way at BLINK. The entire event is made especially for Margate from scratch and the same goes for the Soundtrack. Volunteers will work with us to contribute to the final soundscape.
WORKING WITH STUDENTS
BLINK WEBSITE
The website www.blink-margate.com was designed by two students Jessie Learmouth and Sasha Griffiths, from the Multimedia Technology and Design course at the School of Engineering and Digital Arts at the University of Kent as a final project in their degree course. The designers worked alongside a real campaign for the Blink Margate event and have developed this site from the actual website brief, adding their own ideas regarding functionality and design.
BUZZ CAMPAIGN
We are also working with multimedia students from Thanet College on ideas for generating a BUZZ about BLINK. Students are coming up with ideas that will become a core part of the marketing campaign for the event following a process of development and presentations to a panel of judges. Listen out for the BUZZ, more info coming soon.
